My new Axis 500 AK WSM

Re-barreled my 243HB, it is now a 500 AK WSM.

I rebated the Starline 50 Alaskan brass to a Mag bolt face .532 and bought a PT&G bolt head to match.

18" Green Mtn blank profiled to a mag taper.

Tasco Euro 1.5x6 scope sets a little high, cause of the only 30mm mounts that I had.

Home made 4 gilled brake works great!

Just started working up loads, but have several that push a 325 XPB 2400 fps or better.

So far the stock is doing just fine with over 4300 ft #s of energy!

Nothing fancy, but looks like it may shoot!

Also did a trigger job that worked well.

I will keep you informed how the stock holds up!

    I am trying Google Photos........

I clanged them to a "shared" account, let me know if they work.

    Thanks

That looks pretty stout! I thought my .338 Edge Axis was a shoulder-shover, but that looks like the champ! Did you put any mass in the stock to help absorb the recoil?

Does that round feed from a magazine? It looks like it might be a little long once loaded with a bullet.

The OAL is only 2.795" using a 2.100" case.

I only have the 243 mag.....doesn't feed............not going to bend the lips out, just going to order a WSM mag....it should work.

The stock is stock, no mods........not needed yet........the brake is working well.

Now to get some Sierra 400 grainers and start loading.

Very interesting. Is this round your own design? All I could find online was a guy turning WSM brass into a 50 caliber round, but that would give up some cartridge capacity compared to yours. He'd need to start with RUM brass, though I don't know if the .510 bullet would fit. Either way, impressive work!

It is like the 50 B&M Alaskan with a shorter neck and rimless.....my design..........other than they use to do the same to 348 win brass in the 375 Express by Ralph Payne.

I thought about using 348 brass, but harder to find.....and the Starline 50 AK brass requires no neck reaming.

Shot 2 targets, both the same.......1st shot low left, next 2 touching.

It's hot!!!!!.....may be me jerking the trigger and settling in on the next two.

    1" at 50 = 2" at 100 will kill most anything............

    Just a little update:

I just replaced the aluminum picatinny base with a steel one.

Also changed the rings from a round bolt to a square edge Vortex.

Happen to notice that the rings were sliding forward, even with the brake.

Made some nasty humps in the base.

The basic stock is still doing fine with no mods.

    WSM mag feeds great!

While inspecting the stock for wear, I noticed the bottom screws were loose. Tightened them up, and now the safety doesn't work???

[Gun will fire with the safety on.]

Apart and together several times, and the safety still not working, I noticed the top back of the trigger guard is hitting the over travel screw.

Carved some clearance in hump............and the safety is working again.............just wanted to share this info.

This is .050 shorter than the 500wtf. The wtf uses a WSM or RUM case. The 500wtf is one POWERFUL BLASTER!

Filled a garbage can full of water. Laid cardboard on top......keeps the jet stream from gushing into the face!!!
Also shot an old patio block! Blew a nice round 2" hole, + about a 1/2" divet.
The 275 XPB's have a large nose and shoot much better with a poly tip inserted. 150 yard group went from 5"s to 1.1/2".
Fill the nose with lead and they group better also.
    BUT:
The 275 Black coated bullets from Mid South have a smaller nose hole and shoot, [group] much better.
