hs precision from 338 lapua for 260 remington, what magazine?

I've found a FCP HS Precision stock that was originally for a 338 lapua for a good price with the bottom metal. Wondering if anyone has experience turning this into a long action for shooting a 308/260/243 etc. I'm unsure what magazine to buy... would prefer a 10 round. Thanks.

If the screw spacing is 5.062 you are g2g

Not sure about that one...I don't think there is a .308 "class" magazine that will fit .338 bottom metal. Different than a typical LA like a 7mag, .300 WM, etc. due to it's OAL. That's why it's easy to spot a .338 LM on the firing line from a mile away.

Confirm the pattern of the inlet/bottom metal (AICS standard?), then look for a .308 mag designed for it- I would be surprised if there is such an animal due to the length of the mag, and the much shorter follower that would be required. Darn near an inch difference in length between these rounds.

Then, you'd still need the "correct" receiver that's compatible with the .338 length mag- or have a LA receiver milled to accept it.

It's still early in the morning and maybe I've missed something here- but this is not a road that easily traveled, unless that stock is free I think you'll spend more trying to "get it to work" than just buying a LA receiver and stock (assuming you want to build the .260 on a LA).

You'll need a AICS 300WM mag that's been adjusted for use with 30-06. CDI had them available when I did my 6.5-06 back in 2015-2016.

Maybe...depends on the bottom metal the OP has. I believe (but could be wrong...) that the Savage bottom metal for .338's is for CIP length magazines which would require milling a standard long action to fit- and there wouldn't be .06 compatible mags available in XL. If he has bottom metal for a "short" .338 LM, would work as you mentioned.

OP should measure his bottom metal to determine if it's for LA magnums, or for CIP .338 Lapua.

SAAMI spec for .338 LM COL is 93.50mm +0/– 3.05mm (3.6811" +0/ - .120"). The standard long action 110 magazine is 3.5", which is still shorter than the minimum 3.5611". The proposed conversion may not be able to hold factory ammo in the magazine.

I know Savage uses a beefed-up action for the .338 LM. I don't know whether it's lugs, or whether it's length is standard LA or XL... Far as I know, all use AICS pattern mags now.

Long action, AICS mag will take a COAL of 3.625

What factory ammo we talking about here? I won't be using 338 lapua. Or are you saying the 260 remington won't work???

My bad. Not sure what I was thinking. In the process of converting a 110 7mm RM to something, still undecided what. 6.5 PRC "wastes" mag space, 300 PRC is too long by .2". 26 and 28 Nosler both work but bullet wold be seated deeper into case than I want. Original thought was 6.5 PRC and may still go that way. Wish Hornady would do 7mm PRC to fit a 3.5" mag.

If your HS Precision mag and bottom metal are the same as mine, it takes the longest AIC style mag offered - 3.850". Nobody that I am aware of makes a 30-06 sized mag to fit that length. My guess is that one of the Accurate Mag 3.850" long magazines might work for you - see what worked for me in the link below. As for a 10 round 3.850" long mag that would fit that bottom metal - I have never seen one in any caliber, but perhaps they do exist. It would have to be pretty tall to hold 10 rounds - something like 8"-9".

Possibly something in my thread about using multiple rounds in the Savage long actions with 3.850" length bottom metal might be helpful.
