    Bore diameter and component consolidation.

Over the last decade or so there have been multiple periods when ammo and components have been in in short supply.
I decided to reduce the number of ponies in the barn and consolidate based on bore diameter.

So far during this latest "drought" it seems to have served me well having interchangeable components on hand.
I'm down to mostly .308 and .223 diameters because of the wide number of calibers I can load for with those components.
.257 covers a couple as well and seems to be one of the less popular so it stays on the shelf a little longer, but also seems to take a little longer to come back in stock.

Has anyone else subscribed to this way of selecting what they're buying selling and trading?

I've found H4895 can cover quite a few cartridges effectively.
What powders and other components have you found that can cover multiple cartridges well?
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.

H4895 and H4350 are all I use to load the 5 different rounds I currently make...

I could easily get by with H322 and W748 for loading 223 and 6BR. I have more than that only because recent shortages forced me to buy what was available.

I started with that in mind when I reduced my gun inventory. I have 4 heirloom guns. The others are either self defense or everyday shooters.

Pistols are .45ACP and 9mm. Rifles are .223 and .308. The .223 (bolt) was chosen for commonality with easily available ammo. The .308 was chosen mainly for cast bullets (which is what I mostly shoot in it).

Due to casting I have had a steady supply of pistol and .308 bullets. I could cast .223 bullets, but, they are tough little buggars to cast well enough for accurate shooting.
