    7.62x39mm Savage Barrel

I have a hankering to build a 7.62x39mm and was wondering if anyone knows of a place to buy a barrel that would fit a Savage action?
Before you ask, the reason why is.....Just because!

I have the same hankering. I'm thinking of using Apache Gun Works. I have a barrel on order with him now in another caliber.

I have the dies, would be great for subsonic. I emailed them a while ago, asking if it was .311 or .308, no response.

I also emailed them on ther 300bo barrel I did end up getting a response but it was just on the Contour exactly of the barrel I emailed back a second time and haven't seen another response. Based upon the reviews on other forums for their other Barrel conversions their customer service is spotty at best

I have owned two Savage factory 7.62x39 barrels. Still have one in fact. They both have been super accurate, and so much fun.

Id bet dollars to donuts it is a 0.311", which is perfectly fine for shooting 0.308" pills. With the cheapest 7.62x39 barrel on my AR15 i could find was shooting 0.75moa all day long at 200 yards using 0.308 150gr nosler ballistic tips.

PacNor can make you any barrel you want.
XCaliber will too and is a touch cheaper than PacNors option

I'm going to put my Savage factory 20" 7.62x39 barrel, original bolt and magazine up for sale in the classifieds if anyone is still looking. Came off a model 10 scout and is very accurate.

Do you have to change the bolt head? Or will a 473 work?

Should be fine. I used my 7mm-08(.473) and the SSS enhanced extractor and it works fine.

7.62x39 bolt actions are a ton of fun, and very deadly on deer and pigs inside 200 yards.

I had Shaw build me a 6.5 Grendel barrel a while back and it shot really well. Contour was too heavy so I sold it, but it was a very good barrel for the cost, I thought.
