Model 99 Savage .300

I’m trying to date my model 99 lever action Savage .300. Closest I get is somewhere between 1947 and 1949.
The serial number is 508189 and there is an asterisk on the lever boss.
Any if you Model 99 experts out there able to narrow it down? I’m new to the Savage family. Any help appreciated.
