New guy with new to me Hog Hunter .308

Hello here from East Texas. I already owned a 110 30/06, but just picked up a HH in a somewhat blind trade. My brother brokered the deal for what I thought was going to be a Model 11 Scout...

Long story shortened, I am happy with the deal because the HH came with a Zeiss 4-12x42 already mounted, and I intended to make this my first build gun (all my other firearms are bone stock).

So I'll be poking around here looking for info on options to build something in the neighborhood of a budget rough and tumble hog/truck/scout-ish gun. Might even sell/trade the scope for lower power optics and budget assistance.

I tend to think way outside of the box, so I'll probably need you guys to reign me in some.
