    6mmBR on Savage 11 Action

I'm looking at building a 6mmBR repeater on a Savage model 11 action for the wife. I've already got a Shilen #3 8 twist 22" barrel chambered up and ready to go and a Lady hunter stock on the way. All I lack is the action and the best option for feeding it. Can I get a BR with a 105gr bullet to feed relatively reliably from a standard .308 or .22-250 Mag? Does savage make one for the 6BR? I know they make the model 12 in that caliber but I am not seeing any magazines for that caliber on their website. I'm not a big fan of the big drop magazines like the AICS or CDI but I will use one if that's what I have to do.

I just asked Fred this last week and IIRC he said Savage uses the standard 308 mag box for the 6mm BR.

CORRECTION: Savage uses a modified 223 magazine (thanks Fred)

Midway shows one listed it looks to be blocked. Shows out of stock. I don't look often but I've never seen them in stock. A call to savage may yield some results with this number Savage Arms #: 55157

I found one on eBay for $38.00 while waiting on my 6mm BR barrel to arrive. Yes, it is blocked. Inner length almost looks too short to me actually. (About 2.45") Maybe someone that shoots 6mm BR will know. I won't know until I load near the lands and see how much room I have in the magazine.

I've got almost the identical setup, but truth is, I've only ever shot it single feed, never tried to feed from the magazine (308). I'll give it a go tomorrow morning and get back with an update.

FWIW it's an X-caliber 28 inch, 8 twist shooting 105's, model 12 action, BVSS stock, center blind 308 magazine. Bullet loaded +.010 into lands seats about 3/4 down neck.

So, it's safe to say COAL for a loaded round is going to be longer than 2.45"?

I did not have any luck feeding them out of my Left hand fixed magazine that was a 243 Win prior to being swapped to 6mm BR. In the meantime a 6mm BR detachable magazine came up for sale on this forum and I snagged it. I have not tried it yet as I would need to mount the barrel on one of my other short actions that are stocked accordingly because my lefty SA is presently wearing a 22-250 barrel it is shooting way to good to mess with going back to the BR cartridge and with no lefty stock inletted for a DBM.

    Best regards

Jim is actually incorrect.....the 6 BR magazine is a tweaked .223 magazine.

Ok, thank you. I will need to get one of those then if I can't find a Savage original part.

MY OAL is 2.375. I ran them though using mag feed, and they worked OK. They will tend to nose dive when loading into the blind mag, but if you're a little careful, they work fine.

That is pretty rare. We can let him slide for sure.

Rest assured my brain farts are quite frequent when it comes to specific information which is precisely why I usually pre-face such statements with "IIRC" just in case. LOL

I shoot a Savage Repeater in 6BR, and use the 6BR Savage Magazines, they work awesome,,,years back, Savage was going to produce a 6BR repeater, never materialized, but the magazines were produced and packaged.
