    model 12fcv

Hi everyone,i just bought a new model 12fcv and was surprised to find it did not have the 1" fluted bull barrel. It has the standard accutrigger, not the target trigger as advertised and does have the accustock.
This was shipped in a sealed Savage box with the correct model numbers on the end flap, however the rifle itself is marked "model 12" on the barrel. Has Savage downgraded the specs,or was this thing boxed wrong or what? I would really like to know whats going on,and hope one of you out there can help!
    Thanks,the Rocker

    Re: model 12fcv

Just checked the Savage website, looks to me like the 12FCV is the same as the 12FV except the FCV has a detach mag. The 12 series except for the LRPV models are all Varmint level Accutriggers I am pretty sure which should be 1.5 to 5lb. adjustment I believe.

Are you sure you were looking at the FCV and not the LRPV? The LRPV is the only ones of the 12 series that have 1" fluted barrels and they are all Stainless. The 12FCV I looked at at the Savage site was only in blued.

This is what I looked at.

    Hope some of that helps.

Thanks Boots. I did go to the Savage website several times. If you enlarge the picture of the rifle you can see the barrel is fluted. I got the description of the gun from several sites, such as Ozark Guns and Buds Gun Shop. The spec seemed to be from a Savage press release. I am absolutely sure it was the 12FCV I was looking at. Pretty disappointed since that was my main reason for the purchase.

Contact Savage, they seem to be good at this sort of thing...the press release for the FCV DID state that the rifle had a fluted barrel and accustock, but NOT a Target Trigger - the target trigger comes with some model 12's LRPV, etc but not the FV, FCV, VLP and some others. Oh, and it is a varmint contour barrel, not a bull barrel - not sure if any of the current Savage rifles come with a bull barrel.

The only 12 LRPV that gets the target trigger is the single shot. Also the target model 12's (F/TR etc.) get the target triggers. And the older LRPV's did not have the fluted barrels. Mine doesn't. It has a slightly contoured barrel which means it isn't a true bull barrel but it's close enough. I think there's .1 inch difference from the bore to the breech.

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll live with it and hope it shoots.
