    Savage axis stock

I am thinking about getting one of the new model savage axis rifles. It would be for my kids. It appears that there is an insert in the full sized stock that can be removed to make the stock have a shorter length of pull. Is that correct? Has anyone done that? Ideally I could buy a full sized rifle, remove the insert for my kids, and then reinsert it when they get bigger.

So, is Savage doing away with the youth model Axis?

Not at all. I just bought one. I got mine for $319 before the rebate. https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperst....cfm/ID/210148

It looks like the 110 series does have the 'adjustable pull length' stocks. Not the Axis. But, as above, the Axis comes in the Compact model.

I just bought the Axis XP (not the Axis II). The stock is now different and has the spacer insert.

The Savage website only shows the Axis II these days so you probably have one of the vendor specials, like my Walmart Axis II HB. Where did you find it?

On closer look it does look like the Axis II has the spacer stock, they just don't mention it in the description. Interesting.

Also interesting is that Savage shows pictures of two different stocks, one with spacer and one without, both on the Axis II web page.

I removed the spacer in mine and modified/ground the gummy recoil pad to fit using my Dremel and sanding drums and a sharp razor knife.

Did the recoil pad not fit after removing the spacer?

No, dimensions were slightly off and the pad had to be fitted. Took me about 5 minutes with a razor knife and my Dremel to reshape the area that inserted into the hollow stock. See my posting on the Axis forum page, "Altering an Axis Stock".
