I had a lefty in .243. is it an old flatback that is flat on the top at the rear of the receiver where the scope mounts? A serial would help figure out when it was made. http://www.savageshooters.com/showth...-Letter-Prefix
That should tell you about the action anyway. As easy as it is to swap barrels it may be hard to tell what caliber it was when it left the factory. Savage used to have a parts finder on their website that used the serial # and would give pretty much all the info as it left the factory but I think it has been taken down from their company site.
