Torque value for MSR barrel nut???

I found a new White Oak Armament barrel on black Friday and went to install it on my msr recon model. I took the handguard off and disassembly seems very straightforward. Savage uses a barrel nut that I imagine is proprietary.

My question is torque. The lady at savage said 90 foot Lbs which seems excessive. 35 to 80 for a typical barrel nut and really any anything over 35 is good. Is 90 ft lbs correct?

How much torque to take the old one off?
The Dunning-Kruger effect is alive and well.

Not familiar with the Savage nut, but yeah, 90 sounds much too high. Most instructions for the ones I have used start at 30. I think they all have. I know the Midwest Industries nut specifies 30 ft/lbs, not to exceed 60. So yeah, you are on the right track for torque. Use some grease on the threads too.

I haven't got the new one yet. Fedex seems to be running s few days behind.

The savage barrel nut is unlike any I've seen. It is a hexagon so I'm hoping it fits a standard size box end or I guess an adjustable will have to do.

This is what I was thinking. Somewhere above 30 or 35, but 90 ft lbs has to be a ball buster

    35 will be plenty.
