looking for info on a Hiawatha 189R

Picked up a Hiawatha model 189R at a gun show last week end. Seems this gun was manufactured by Savage or Stevens and sold through Gambles. I don't find a serial number or patent numbers but I would like to learn more about this rifle. I do not find any mention of a 189 with an R and wondered if that would help determine it's age and what the R means. Don't see how to past any pictures, but any information would be appreciated.

Numrich has a cross reference for original manufacture, possibly it's a savage/stevens 87.
