    Springfield 87A

Who all has a Springfield 87a? My dad was given this rifle to give to me by a customer of his when I was really young. It's a stubborn thing, misfeeds and misfires about 25% of the time and it's extremely accurate when it does fire the other 75% lol

I'd start with a good cleaning then try different ammo. Remington Thunderbolts are the cause of all those problems in semi autos.

Yeah ammo makes a huge difference. Oddly enough, the Remington's are one of the few it feeds well. CCI, I quit even trying to use them in it....

I've found a lot of older .22's also work better with standard velocity ammo.

I've had Thunderbolts FTF, in autos, bolt actions and revolvers! The only gun I have that functioned was my Browning Buckmark, I burn up a whole brick of that stuff, just to get rid of it, with no malfunctions!

Got a couple of the old 87As mine feed and run fine with most anything I feed em except Remington Thunderbolts and Winchester bulk pack (333s, 555s etc). Pretty sure it's the ammo not the rifle with those as most were failure to fire even after multiple strikes and trying em in my Ruger mk2. My 87s run fine on the "new and improved" golden bullets and gobble up CCI and Federal like candy.

I'm with Big Al on the thorough cleaning. It doesn't take much gunk and varnish to cause problems and old machine oil and dust or improper lubricants like WD 40 will sure make em sluggish.
A good wife and a steady job has ruined many a great hunter.
