I have one of the new Diamondback FFP 4-16x44mm and so far so good. Using it on a buddy's Savage Axis .308 for this deer season. It will go on my Savage Model 11VT .223 after the season.
The reason I didn't go for the 6-24x50mm was due to pretty good reviews showing some glass quality issues past 20x. so I figure that wasn't worth the cost difference as the glass on the 44mm version is clear all the way up to 16X. I plan on getting a rifle to shoot long range and will buy a PST Gen II FFP if I go up in glass size and magnification. Of course that cost over twice what the Diamondback costs.

Yep celltech's correct it is actually a 6-24x!

There is no Diamondback Tactical 5-25, I assume you mean the 6-24? I have both the *new* FFP 4-16 and 6-24 models. If I had to do it over again I would likely just have a pair of the 4-16's. It's true that as you push beyond 16x the clarity starts to drop off. And as I only tend to shoot up to 800 yards the 16x top end is sufficient for me. I have not tried a low light back to back to see if the 50mm vs 44mm makes a difference at the same power.

But I like them both and feel it's a lot of scope for the $$$. The reticles are excellent and easy to read. One thing I really appreciate is the single big screw that lets you remove the turret cap and set to -0-. I am constantly annoyed with my SWFA and Athlon scopes when I am moving them around and have to loosen 3 or 4 tiny set screws to re-zero the knobs...and especially the Athlon, jesus they are small and have to come ALL the way out...uggh.
