Nikon P308 BDC800 in the woods

Search function didn't provide what I was looking for.

I'm stuck between attaching a Nikon 4-12x40 BDC or the P308 with the BDC800 reticle.

I LOVE the P308 scope but I'm worried that in the woods the small nature of the lines and circles will be hard to make out... Anybody have experience with this?

Academy had the P308 for $249 and the other for $109.99

I have one on my cz550 in 308, I hunt with it almost a 100 percent for deer. I love the scope. The lines as you say are fairly fine but I got used to it very quickly and it helps to have finer reticle lines for shooting distance too.

I am using the 3-9x40mm BDC (Prostaff 3) and I hunt in everything from dark hemlocks to open clearings. I keep mine set at 4X or 5X to draw in light. I am assuming with the "busier" BDC800 you won't be trying to reach out to the full 800 in the woods. With the crosshairs the eye is naturally drawn to the center, anyway, so you should be fine using the center. The little dots and circles will be down among the deer's legs and not where you are focusing. ;-)

And don't miss out on Nikon's Spot On ballistic calculator for specific loads. http://spoton.nikonsportoptics.com/s...spoton.html#:8

Worked when I need it to. In fact, my 100 yard shooting range is probably heavier cover than most guys hunt. -)

I added a waterproof paper chart to the flip up cap in case I do need to reach out (calibrated for 9X and a 143 gr ELD-X).
