For good, basic and cheap scopes I always come back around to either a Nikon Buckmaster II 4-12x40 or the Prostaff 3-9x40.
looking for suggestions for a scope for axis 243..Basic use will be deer hunting
in woods or open field..doubt any farther than 300 yds at the most..thanks..

I was going to suggest a Nikon Prostaff 3 3-9x40mm w/BDC.
That's what I have on my .260 Rem. Though the 12x mentioned above sounds attractive for target & varmint shooting. Where I hunt (woods) I leave it at 4X for deer to get the added light. If I get a chance at something further then I zoom it.

so i ordered the buckmaster 2 off amazon...
Good move that's what I have on my 243 and it work's great !!!
I think you made a great choice. I have gotten several of them on sale for ~$120 and love the low weight, light transmission, and useful BDC reticle. The only annoying thing is the turret caps are a dark grey color and not a deep black like the scope body...guess that is reaching for cons. I have to keep asking myself why would I spend any more money for a "better" scope.
should be here Thursday..hope it aint raining so maybe I can get it sighted in
Friday
I ordered a barrel through X-Caliber's election sale in 243. I am putting a simple 4-12x44 Redfield on it to keep weight low. It's currently on a 338 federal but after making that a woods/brush gun I have a 2x7 Leuy I'm putting on it.
All depends on what you expect out of your rifle.

i like my vortex stuff if i can get it cheap enough, the copperhead, or Diamondback line are great for glass and easier on the wallet, warranty is great
