    Question Savage 1899

I bought an old Savage 1899 takedown in 22 hi power. The barrel bore is in bad shape. Does anyone know if reboring the barrel to 25-35 or 30-30 can be done without changing the brass rotor in the magazine and have the rifle work? Please advise!

Being that they're all .30-30 based I would imagine they all used the same rotor. I'm no expert on 99's though.

I'd stuff the magazine full of some dummy rounds and see if they feed!

How will larger caliber dummy rounds feed into a smaller caliber chamber?

Just to see if they feed up/ and load in the magazine, they don't have to fully chamber to see if they'll feed.
I once thought of having a switch barrel TD in .303 Sav and .38-55, but the .38-55 case would not fit in the .303 rotor.

Re-boring your barrel will probably cost as much as replacing the barrel. If possible, I'd bite the bullet and replace the barrel and keep the rifle as original as possible.
