    77gr smk

I was just checking the Hodgdon reloading data website, and it shows that 77gr smks max load is lower then a 80gr smk any ideas why? Thanks in advance for the help!

    Maybe because the 77's are BT's ???

I was wondering why the Sierra book doesn't have any info for 77SMK for bolt rifles, but it does for gas guns. Any one know what is up with that?

Most likely, the 77gr SMK max is lower because it can be loaded to mag length (2.260") which reduced case capacity and increases pressure. The 80gr SMK can't be loaded to make which increases case capacity, so you can put more powder behind it and get the same or lower pressure than with the 77gr SMK.

Just use the data for the 80gr SMK. Start low and work your way up watching for pressure signs.

When I got the 10PC from Savage thay test fired it with Fed ammo that was loaded with 77gr SMK's. I tried them and found they shot very well.
