    gun shop 99's for sale

went to local gun shop and they had 4 99's for sale. mod. R 539xxx for 580.00, mod. R 582xxx for 490.00, mod. R 650xxx for 700.00 and a mod. EG 385xxx for 580.00. I am undecided on which one to get. To be used for hunting and hand-me-down. I am leaning towards the EG. what do you think??? Any and all thought's would be helpful.

I love my EG, so I'm biased. But R's and EG's are very similar models, I believe. I would decide based on condition. Are they all the same caliber? Do any have receiver sights?

I'm sorry about not mentioning caliber's. They are all .300 sav. The model R's have scopes on them.

It's not likely any of those serial numbers were factory D&T'd for scope blocks. If the "Savage 99" roll stamp on the front receiver ring is off to the left side (visible to the left outside of front scope block), then they are factory D&T'd.

I would choose the EG, because I like the look and feel of the EG forearm. But if you want a factory original with "collector value" pick the best condition one that hasn't been after-market drilled. Besides the stock differences the EG and R are the same rifle.
