Savage M11 Questions (new to Savage)

Picked up a used Savage M11 in .223 with a 22 inch heavy barrel. It has a Nikon 4-12X40 Prostaff scope mounted on it. Got it for $350 off a guy at the range who is moving and did not want it anymore. It appears barely fired. I have two questions.

1.) Which model of the M11 is it?

2.) What is the twist rate, so I know what to feed it?

    Thanks for any assistance.

    AJ

You can determine the twist rate by inserting a cleaning rod (with tight patch or brush) and marking it with tape at the muzzle, then pullilng it out until it makes one full turn. Then measure the distance from muzzle to the tape. 1 turn in x inches.

    Twist rate is 1-9".

Can't say what model it is with the limited info you provided, but never seen a Model 11 with a heavy barrel, only 10's and 12's. Could be an odd-ball special run gun though so who knows.

The barrel is 3/4" at the muzzle. To me that is a heavy barrel, as most hunting rifles are less than that.

The only cataloged rifles that were blued with heavy barrels were the Model 10 FP's, the Model 10 Precision Carbine, and the Model 12 FV's. My guess is it's some odd-ball special run gun that was done for a distributor or chain store like Cabela's or the like.

Once upon a time I had a Model 10FP in a McMillan stock. If this shoots near as well as that one I will be extremely happy. I am correct in calling this a heavy barrel correct?

It's a Model 11 Trophy Predator Hunter XP package rifle. I have one.

Looks pretty much like that except mine is in a black stock.
