    22 high power

Local shop has a 1899 Savage in 22 hp. Bore is in bad shape. Worth saving? At what price ? What to do with it?, other than as a wall hanger. Help! BTW, Am a newbie and love the forum.

Don't forget the .22 Savage takes an odd size bullet.

Check around for 0.227" bullets before you grab it as a shooter.

Unless you collect Savages or oddballs it wouldn't be something I'd grab up. If you shoot cast lead - it might be a hoot if you can salvage the barrel.

Is it a killer deal? If so, it might be worth taking a chance. I have a few rifles with unsightly bores that shoot just fine. A raggedy bore that's just fouled can make a comeback with enough environmentally unfriendly chemicals and lots of elbow grease. Reboring to another caliber is an option, if the bones are good. Rebarrelling is an option, if you're patient and watch the auction sites.
