    Inline mag parent cartridge swaps

Trying to scratch an itch gents.
Been looking around for a donor to build a 17 Remington. I find more 243/6.5CM/22-250 reasonable used rigs than anything in 223.
Will I have issues when feeding from the box mag? Or is it just a simple follower swap and go on?

Ran across a pretty good deal on a 6.5 that I would swap to a 243 (lots of 6mm bullets in the cabinet). Would there be any issue on this?

    Thanks folks.
    Jeff

In order to make this work for a 17 Remington you will need a 223 bolt head(.378") and both a 223 mag box and a follower. If you change the bolt head you would like to have the extended front baffle but it is not required. You would need to check firing pin protrusion and adjust as needed.

This may be more straight forward. I am not certain if the 223 will work with the Creed magazine but I know the 6mm Creedmoor will. Worst case scenario is that after the barrel swap you would need to trade for a 243/308 magazine.

    Rephrase here.
I have swapped bolt parts on a half dozen, and am understanding of that. Have a cigar box full of bolt parts.

The inline magazine, metal box, other than long and short actions is there any dimension issues with going from say the Creedmore parent case to the 223.

Will I need to come up with a magazine box specific to the parent case.

If you want it to feed correctly this is a good idea. The 223 case is much smaller in diameter than the Creedmoor. This determines hoe the cartridge will sit or not sit in the mag due to the distance between the feed lips.
