    338 EDGE repeater donor?

My research shows that the 338 Edge, 338 RUM, and the 300 RUM all have an overall length of 3.6 and a base diameter of .550. If this is true If I find a Savage chambered in 300 RUM can I make it into an Edge repeater without changing the magazine?

Yes. That's what I did. But to get the full advantage of the Edge, you will probably need to load them longer than will fit in the magazine. I don't remember who, but someone on here has lengthened their magazine to a length that allows for full power Edge loads.

Why the mag work if the length is the same as the 300 RUM? Is there a factory action that would not require mag work? If you can't tell I am currently not a handloader that is also in the works.

If your using factory ammo you shouldn't have any problems.
If you reload and want to load heavier, longer or to hit the lands is
where the mag length comes in.

That is correct. Loading 300gr SMKs to mag length will give you virtually no benefit over the 338 RUM. OAL should be about 3.785" or to the lands for best results and that won't fit in the mag.

That's correct. In order to lengthen the mag to fit a decent OAL for the Edge you'll have to modify the action in a way that you won't be able to change it back.

Single shot works well and you won't be permanently modifying an action.

    FWIW,

I opened mine up to accomodate a COAL of about 3.850". I have a mill so it was relatively easy. I can't imagine a smith charging much to do it. But once it's done, it's done. Then the magazine needs to be stretched out as well and secured into the stock.

    Feeds great.

Is there any other option if I don't want to modify the mag to make an EDGE repeater? Other actions maybe?

338winmag in the RUM action? ;D

Remington 700 with a Wyatt extended mag box.

Weatherby MkV actions are pretty long.

Thanks for the responses! Guess I need to contact a smith and see what is going to be the most economical way to go. Modifying the savage or use the 700 action.
