    FGMM muzzle velocity

I ran my 24" .308 10FCP over my new Caldwell chronograph today and I was a little surprised about the avg MV I got shooting 168 gr FGMM. A 5 shot string yielded an avg of 2708 fps with the chrono placed about 12 ft in front of the muzzle. The conditions were 72 degrees, 29.97 inHg, 161 ft elev. Advertised MV is 2650 and I usually see guys confirming slightly less than that. I was surprised to see almost 60 fps more than Federal's advertised MV.

What say you? Seem about right? Should I have shot more to get a better sample? I don't know anyone else with a chrono that I can verify this one with.

I also chrono'd a friend's 20" RPR in .308 and the avg MV was 2575. Given the factory claim of 2650, likely with a 24" barrel, that number seems appropriate for the RPR's shorter barrel.

I find that unlike most brands that tend to pad the MV specs a little, FGMM in both 168gr and 175gr at least match the stated velocity and often exceed it just a bit. Of course every chrono will vary slightly too, but a few extra FPS doesn't surprise me.
