I inherited a savage model 16 in a 300 wsm. Barrel was damaged due to a bore obstruction at the end due to mud. I ordered a bartlein barrel with a 3B contour. I would like to upgrade the stock. The current stock has an internal magazine that staggers the rounds. I know Boyds has some reasonable stocks for the money, from the classic model, to the adjustable one model.
Would a guy be better off going to a detachable magazine, or remain with the internal box? Any other stocks to consider?

Just to make sure we know what we're dealing with here, when you pull the barreled action from the stock is the magazine box attached to the action or does it stay in the stock? Makes a big difference in what options you might have for stocks and converting to a detachable magazine.
