    Blown up barrel

    Hey everyone,
I was wondering what your thoughts are of using a rifle that has been "blown up" as a donor? Apparently a friend of a friend has a savage 7mag that is split, that he wants to get rid of cheap. I have not seen the rifle and am assuming it was plugged with mud or something and then fired. What would be the places to look at on the action to see if there was any damage? Bolt, lugs, warped receiver...?

I would check the reciever lugs for "setback" If it is ok I would have no problems using it. If the bolt head is damaged it can be replaced cheaply and easilly.

    Where to look!!!!!

The places that you can not see with the naked eye....

Personally I would not touch it with the purpose of making a barrel even if it were given to me. Muzzle brake maybe. Tent stake for sure.
