Have her a month today. She's the most unfussy rifle I've ever owned. Factory and reloads all fall on the same vertical line. With my full power( factory level) loads, the 150s (2390 fps) and the 170s (2230 fps) have a difference in point of impact of only 1 1/2 inches at 50 yards. She's still open sighted.
I busted off 10 rounds of 150 Sierras over 37 grains of CFE223 and all 10 were in 1 1/16 at 50. Largest group was 15/16 and the smallest was 9/16. Savage REALLY built a good rifle in 1937!
Its rare, and usually my fault, when my 3 rounders at 50 get over an inch. Once I locate a proper aperture sight, I'll stretch her to 100.
Whelen was right. Only accurate rifles are interesting. This little Savage is downright intriguing!
