    Mueller 8-32x44, Athlon 10-40x50, Sightron 10-50x60, Vortex 15-60x52

Its time for a new target scope for 600yd matches. I have read people have put down records at 1K with 25x power scopes, and a lot of shooters end up in the 30-40x during the summer mirage. I need a variable where I shoot, the Swfa picks up mirage at 12x, so a fixed 36x is out of the question. The Mueller has surprisingly good reviews for a 260$ scope. The Sightron and Vortex have great reviews, as they should in that price range. If you have had any of these in your hands, let us know. Thanks

This will be on a heavyweight .223. My "nice" scopes are an Athlon argos 6-24, and a SWFA SS fixed 12x, just to show where I'm coming from.

Your price range is from $200-$1000? For 600 yards my choice is not on your list. I think you would do fine with a 16x or 20x SWFA SS on a budget.

My vote is the sightron. SIII. Own 4 never had an issue. Very clear, great turrets. Have shot mine in 1,000 yard f-class. Worked very well. Have shot out past a mile. Owned them for about 7-8 years. 308/260/300/338 LM

Only other one of your choices I’ve owned is vortex. Had 2 pst and one HS. One pst and the HS crapped out in less then 50 rounds of 308. So I’m a bit reluctant to recommend them. I now own zero vortex

Yes, the price is all over. It would be hard for me to justify a 1300$ scope at this time. Sightron can be had for 800, and has a proven track record. Thats a 500 dollar gap between the Golden eagle and the S3 sightron. 500$= two Muellers haha.

I want more power than 24x, and I want 1/8" clicks. I'm open to others in the 200-1K range.

    Thanks for the replies.

Check out Accurate Shooting forums, there is a discussion about Mueller 8-32 scopes. Buy from the Mueller website and you get lens caps. The warranty sound great..... they just replace them. The target dot reticle looks good...... I don't like hash marks.

Thats where I first read about them. I'm probably going to get one, and a Sightron when I find a good deal.

I have both the vortex golden eagle 15-60x52 and the sightron 10-50x60. I only have the golden eagle mounted as the rifle the sightron is going on is still being built.
I'm not sure how much help I can be on any questions. The golden eagle is my first higher end scope and all I really have to compare it to are sub $200 scopes. Also with the sightron not being mounted yet, I really have not been able to do any "side by side" comparison of the two.
I do like the golden eagle what little bit I have used it, but I have not had a chance to go past 200 yards since the range I used to go to shut down. It went out to 500 yards and closed right after I bought the golden eagle. The next closest range to me only goes out to 200 yards.
What little I have looked through the sightron standing on my front porch, it is equally as clear. However like I said, I have not been able to compare side by side while on a rifle. That is one of the things I plan to do as soon as I get done with the rifle it is going on.

First thing I would say is throw the Mueller out of the equation if you're serious about precision long-range shooting. They're not bad scopes for the money, but they just don't have the glass quality to come anywhere close to the other two options you're looking at.

I have the Mueller on my 6mmAI and it's held up well so far. Mostly a bench gun but has gone varminting a few times where I really need to reach out and touch. Not real high quality glass, turrets are mushy and doesn't track or adjust accurately. I do like the fine dot reticle though. If you're serious about long range I'd look at one of the others, especially something with covered or locking turrets.
