    Savage 24 Combination Guns

I'm looking for a Savage 24V series D chambered in .22 Hornet over a 20 Gauge. Anyone else on this site interested in these old guns. They are pretty unique and take me back to the boyhood years when I could walk out the back door and into a field of quail coveys or rabbits. Out the front door, across the road, and into the woods filled with squirrels, feeding in hickory trees. I've been collecting a few of these in various caliber/gauge combinations. Some of the combinations I have are: .22LR/.410, .22LR/20Ga., .22Mag/20Ga., .30-30/20Ga., .222/20Ga., and I bought the last two Savage 242 barrel sets in .410/.410 from a well known parts vendor in new old stock.

I've been a Savage guy since my early days. In my early...very early, teens, I traded my fishing rod and reel for a Stevens single barrel 12 gauge, with 28 inch modified barrel. I guess I could cycle shells through that single barrel pretty fast. Once a guy from the other side of the duck pond ask me who was on my side shooting the pump gun! I was the only one on that side. Long story short, Savage has put the vittles on the table for me all my life. Right out of the box accuracy... what's there not to like!

I've had a few 24V's in .222 Rem / 20ga over the years as well as a 24C Campers Companion 22LR/20ga. Fun little guns and perfect for light, compact utility gun. Wish Savage still made the 24's rather than the newer 42 that replaced them, but rising production costs put the final nails in the coffin for the 24's.

I have a couple. One in .22 WMR/20GA, and one in .223/12GA. I like both of them, though the tip off mount on the older .22WMR/20GA is a PITA if you want optics mounted. I may try to find if one of the new mini red dots can be adapted. My abilities with open barrel mounted sights have diminished over the years.

I also like other combo guns, with my favorite being the Valmet 412. I have one of those with 12/.30-06, 12/12, .30-06/.30-06, and 9.3x74R/9.3x74R. Covers everything from birds to buffalo in one package. Too bad they don't make either one anymore.
