    my hornet

this is my 340 in 22 hornet. I found it about 5 years ago. it is as new with a vintage redfield 2x7 from what I researched it was from about 1968 is there any way to tell for sure?

Savages had a date code during this time frame. Look for a number followed by a letter stamped on the barrel. Letters began in 1949 with A. Skip O and Q.

They're great shooters, I have a Savage 342 in 22 hornet that I inherited from my grandfather. There's no s/n on it. Such fine craftsmanship. Gotta love that side mount scope lol. That's the only downside to the rifle in my opinion.

Fla_dogman, I also have a Savage 342 in .22 Hornet. I've experienced some feeding problems with mine with soft point bullets...and some also with hollow point bullets. Do you have these problems with yours? You're spot on about the side mount for a scope... seems to limit the diameter of the scope bell.

I have experienced some feeding issues, I adjusted the lip of the magazine with needle nose pliars. It seemed to fix it for me

Been there...done that, still have some issues...even bought a new mag. Just wondering if the 340 has the same issues?
