Shows one need not spend a fortune on a rifle to get good groups.. All my Savages shoot better than my Remingtons, Winchester or Rugers.. I've never bought a Savage that wouldn't hold it's own with those costing double..

try 46.0 grains of Varget with 150 grain Nosler Ballistic tip and Federal FGM210M. Shoots bugholes in my 700P and cloverleafs in my Marlin XS7.

Does anyone know of a decent varmint load that will be accurate in a 1/10 twist? The load above will be my deer and hog load but I'm thinking about a lighter/hotter round for songdogs.

I was going to work up a load for 125's but I got sidetracked with my Creedmoor. That Varget load I mentioned was worked up in a 1 in 12 twist barrel so start low and work up. Also 2.800 OAL.

As no two rifles will shoot the same load equally, you no doubt will be disappointed using a load I or someone else has worked up for their rifles. I have never found someone else s "pet" load shoot great in my rifle. Every one I tried shot from terrible to just OK, but never were what I was looking for. Don't waste components trying my loads. Go ahead and just work up something that will shoot in "your" particular rifle..

I understand that, I'm really just looking for preferred bullet types and starting loads.

For accuracy, try 40.1 gr. of IMR4895 and 168 gr SMK or HPBT. It's a low end charge, but was amazingly accurate out of my 28 in 1/10 twist Savage. Sometimes a very accurate node can be found near a minimum charge wt.
Banning a gun will not solve what is a mental health crisis inflamed by incendiary rhetoric on social and television media. The first amendment in this case is less precious and more likely the causal factor than the second amendment.

This is true. In 300 yd f/tr I used to score 200's with high X count using 41grains of Varget behind a 168 SMK in a 20" Model 10

The SMK's are just that! King of bullets! I load 6.5mm-08 and am looking forward to trying Sierra's new 150gr 6.5mm pill!! .713 Ballistic Coefficient and CRAZY sectional density!

What kind of a twist are you running with that 6.5-08? I think Sierra recommends at least 1 in 7.5. But I saw where someone tried them in a 1 in 8 and it worked.

Yes, I'm running a 26" Shilen 1:8 twist S7 contour. 1:7.5 would be a better choice, however, I simply want to try them. In reality I don't believe the 51mm case has enough volume to take full advantage of the 150gr pills. Guess I should rebarrel to a 6.5-284! LOL! Not! I love the 6.5-08 and specifically chose it, even in a time when so many are jumping on the 6.5mm Creedmor bandwagon! The 08 is superior in the hands of a reloader, between the two. And if I wanted ultra long range performance, I would look to something like the 7mm Practical (7mm-300). But I'm not looking to, nor am I capable of shooting to and even well past 1 mile!

if your looking for a good light weight bullet load for 308, my 16" ruger compact rifle shoots great with 52gr w748 and 125gr sierra prohunters. thats a max charge so work up to it, i get 3/4" 5 shot groups @ 100yds w/that load, try to seat the bullet around .01" off the lands. this load has shot good in every 308win i own, a ruger compact, a model 12fv savage, and a winchester m70.
