Yes. Wouldn't be a DIY without it.
Oz never gave nothing to the Tin Man, that he didn't already have.

yes, you can literally change a barrel in 5-10 minutes with this set up, and barrels can move from action to action without machining barrels for headspace.

I like shouldered barrels more, but I don't want to pay for them.

I recently made my own barrel and eliminated the barrel nut. It was quite easy with the proper equipment. I just indicated the barrel linear and concentric within .0001 then did the rest of the operations. I have a Savage long action but chambered myself a 6.5CM as a test part before I do my 300WM barrel. I wrote a program for the turning and threading operations. I was just curious if other people liked the barrel but because I wasn't a fan.

It's a no-brainer that those of us with the equipment and expertise will work from a blank, and there's no reason to use a nutted barrel in that instance other than to use it on a different action as mentioned.

For the vast majority of Savage owners that don't object to the nutted barrel, it saves them a few bucks, and the time those of us that do this work in the shop- as well as switchbarrel ability if that's needed.

No difference in accuracy, either way it's done.

I like the barrel nut well enough that I added one to my Remington 700.

That's great, but you just married that barrel to that specific action.

The beauty of the barrel nut is that I can swap my barrels amongst my different actions. Simply run the barrel down on the gauge and tighten the nut. Done.

I'm one of those at the other end of the spectrum,,,, No ~equipment~ whatsoever, but still able to take on a barrel replacement with a few readily-available hand tools.
