    New round offered by Savage

I am pretty excited to see that Savage is offering the 280 AI in 4 models. I just got my first 280 AI a few months ago and it is nearly as fast as my 7mm Rem Mag and in a rimless non magnum case. I know it is probably not a big deal to many of you, but I just thought it was awesome (and long overdue) to have a non-magnum that is faster than a 7mm-08.

Good to know. How is the availability of 280AI brass? Debating my next (long action) purchase, and was nearly settled on 7mm Mag.

Nosler also offers off the shelf loaded ammunition. I got 4 boxes of loaded Nosler Ballistic tips (from midway at $27 per box when they were on sale) to use as my break-in rounds and brass.

Not a bad place to settle.

I really wish that savage would offer a 7mm Magnum in a 1-9 or faster twist, so I could shoot the 175's better. That is one of the draws of the 280 AI, it comes in a faster twist than my 7mm Mag.

You can always order a Wilson, Shaw or Green Mountain for your action and get that faster twist.

LOL and Rock Creek, Brux, Bartlien, Krieger, Hawk Hill, Muellerworks, Proof Research and probably Obermeyer. I guess I should have distinguished Budget barrels from mid priced and premium.
