Which size shank is this?

First post here and just found this site, glad to see a Savage specific site.

I did plenty of searches on the net but couldn’t get a Difinitive answer

Just bought a Savage lightweight hunter stainless in .270. cal and wanted to verify if it was a small shank or not. I’ve been to the link that people post when this question is asked. That’s for the old style barrel nut but this is the newer smooth style, plus I won’t have the gun in my hands in time to place an order for a barrel while x-caliber is having their 25% off sale.

It's a standard shank, 1.055".

I called savage yesterday to ask them and the girl sounded newer but she told me it was for sure a large shank. Which is opposite of most of what I found info on about small and large shanks. I didn’t have the serial number though, just the model and cartridge. It just didn’t sound correct.

That is a great looking rifle. I've hunted several years with a 110 Trophy Hunter in .270 and it has dropped every deer I've shot at with it. .270 is sort of "old school" now days with all the new-fangled calibers out there, but the things I dig about 270: Bullets are inexpensive, even Hornady SSTs and available almost anywhere bullets are sold; Recoil is minimal, I can shoot .270 all day long even in a light-weight package; flat-shooting and ACCURATE!; It has killed every deer I've shot with it from 50 to 250-yards quickly and cleanly.

I've never regretted picking up my .270 Savage 110.

The Savage models chambered in 270 are, under every circumstance that I have ever seen small shank. It would be custom(and a waste) if that model was a large shank.

If you look at the barell nut and the barrel transition it is pretty obvious.
