    Boyds stock color variations?

I am getting ready to purchase a Boyd's classic in either nutmeg or pepper but have a concern. Some nutmeg pictures show it as a nice dark color and some show it as a very yellow color. I have also seen some pepper pictures where the stock may as well be black due to the color. Anyone know what color they should be? Boyds.com shows stocks in a dark color but other retailers show them as yellow/orange.

    Care to post some pics?

Well, I have a pepper Laminate Prairie Hunter finished in just Matte... I suppose the High Gloss finish could make it look lighter or darker depending on which color of Laminate you choose. I've seen photos of the Nutmeg stock that didn't have the high gloss finish and it just didn't look very good... Just kind of a drab very generic wood look. And I've also seen one that had the high gloss finish on the nutmeg and it looked REALLY nice.

My Pepper has more of a Gray look then black, and I don't think it lacks in the "cool" factor. However, I also have the Coyote Laminate (also matte finish) and it really "POPS" when in the sunlight.

About a year ago i ordered a nutmeg PH from optics planet and it was awful. I am so glad that style didn't fit me and they allowed me to return it. It almost looked like someone painted on the black tones onto the wood. It was somewhat of a dull color. If you open the two boyds links in my OP you can see how dark and rich the color is compared to the optics planet one which i think looks horrible for the amount of money they are asking. I would prefer the gray color on the pepper than 90% black like I've seen a few.

The color will vary some stock-to-stock due to the fact that each individual 1/8" layer of wood used in the laminate is going to have a slightly different density and thus will absorb the dye differently. As others have noted already, the gloss finish does help darken up the colors some compared to the matte finish.
