    RE-25 load info for 110BA .338LM

I'm new to the site but have a 110BA in .338LM. I'm interested in trying some RE-25 but can't find any info on Aliant's site. Most Lapua shooters out there are using Sako's and I have found that the 110BA has a tighter chamber than the Sako's and 1:12 twist vs my 1:9 twist wich is better for the 300gr pills. I have tried the following powders: H4831sc & VV560 under 250gr SMK which shoot .5 MOA out to 700 yds. I have tried Retumbo with 300gr scenars but I can't find a good load so I thought I would give RE-25 a try. If someone has info that they would share I would appreciate it. I will be using:
    Lapua brass
    FGGM mag primers
    300gr scenars

    Thanks

Gee do I detect a hint of attitude from you because nobody replied with your information request quickly enough for you? May only be one or two folks that frequent these boards with a 338LM.

Great way to make friends and influence people with your second post.

No, I hope it didn't come off that way but if it offend anyone I apologize to the forum. I meant no disrespect. Since this is a Savage forum I just figured that some one would be able to shed some info on loads for a 110BA. Since that is not the case so be it.
    Again, please accept my apology

No problem, not always easy to detect someones intent. If someone on here has the information you need they will be happy to share it.

I have not had any luck with RETUMBO either when shooting 300 smk’s. I have tried the Sierra “accuracy load” which calls for IMR 4350. Was not impressed.

So far my bests 3 shot groups have come from using 80.9 grains of Reloaded 22, WLRM primer, Lapua brass with a C.O.L of 3.740” These groups have measured just at an 1” @ 100 yards. Over the years I have tweaked & tuned loads for several rifles ( some were savages) and eventually they became very good shooters but this beast is taking me to task!

I also want to try REL 25 and VV N570.

    Chuckr,

    Welcome to the forum!
I have found a loadfor my 110BA of 89.5gr of Retumbo with 300gr sceaners with 2.977 from ogive (or .010 off lands) @ 2740fps will shoot .5 MOA @ 100yds, you just have to live with the sooty case mouths (that's just Retumbo).
The 110BA will shot 250gr SMK's with 88.5gr N560 @ 2930fps and .37MOA @ 100yds, I also have found that H4831SC @ 89gr. with the 250gr SMK's mirrors the N560 load but the 250gr don't seem to shoot well over 850yds. The 110BA with it's 1:9 twist is meant to shoot the 300gr bullets best and I use N560 @ 83gr 2756fps with .4 MOA @ 100yds. I will try RL25 @ some point. I was just trying to reduce cost of the VV powders. It will take about 200 rds down the tube for your groups to shrink. HTH

Went out last week end to finish testing my 250gr SMK's @ 1200yds, didn't stabilize well and only hit once out of 4 shots. This is where the 300gr shine, 6 for 6.
Thanks for your input and keep me informed on how you make out and I'll do the same.

    Basic,

    Thats great info.

Can you share with me what tool you are using to measure your O.A.L. The tip of the SMK's do vary so its extremely difficult to measure accurately.

    Thanks,

    Chuck

    Chuckr,

There are several bullet comparitors on the market. I happen to like Hornaday's Loc-N-Load set up. I use the set for all of my rifles that I reload. You can find them at almost any reloading outlet, Midway USA, Graf & Son's, Sinclair International etc.. They are a must for the reloader. I've talked to Sierra about their Meplat problem as it effects BC, but they state that's just the nature of their process. I use SMK's in my .308 but for this .338 I only use Lapua bullets, they have a higher BC and they are tipped already from the factory and all weigh with in 1/10 of a gr of each other. Pricey but you get the quality every time. We are shooting a .338LM which is expensive to shot anyway and deserve to have quality componets. Oh, buy they way the 4350 is to quick of burn rate for use, tried it and had hard bolt lift and poor accuracy. HTH
