Never heard of such a thing.
I hate getting hung up on stupid little things. I bought a brand new barrel nut for my first Savage build and the wrench won’t go over the grooves. Do I lightly Dremel the grooves? Do I try to smooth the teeth of the wrench? Is this a common problem?
Never heard of such a thing.
Did you try the other size wrench ? my barrel nut wrench has 2 different sizes, one on each end.
You might have to re-use the original nut and send the new one back. I have no problem re-using the Savage nuts.
^ This. Try the other end and mark it
The other end is for the round grooves and doesn’t mate up. I honestly wonder if I got a bad nut. My old one is shot. The threads were buggered up
What brand wrench are you using?
Wheeler
Guessing you already ditched the old one? Simple enough to see if the wrench fits over it, to see if it's the wrench, or the new nut....
The nut should be 1.304 dia, notches .125 x .040 deep. if you have a mike/calipers.
Is there a different wrench for the large shank barrels?
Also what brand barrel nut? I read that there was one out there for a 1 1/8" 12 pt wrench not the standard Savage.
Large and small shank nuts have same outside dimensions, though large is shorter from front to rear.
Well I sacrificed some metal on the teeth of the wrench to get it on there. I took the Dremel to them just enough to get it on the nut. The wrench was borrowed so naturally I have ordered him a new one. I still think the nut was the issue but the seller didn’t seem too convinced. Oh well just another bump in the road.
thanks for the input
