model 11 .338 Federal barrel swap questions

Guy at work thought he was going to go on a big hunt so he buys this .338 Federal Savage DOA Hunter and I convince him otherwise and buy the gun from him.
Anyway Im wanting to know if a .308 barrel can be installed on this gun due to ease of finding ammo and Im not a hunter just target and shooting what ever will make a mess all over my range 100-200 yards for fun.
Or should I just sell the gun in its complete form and call it a day, but I would like to keep it. (PS) this is my 4th Savage and I was a member of this site awhile back but must have been updated and dumped my last log in name and password because I used the same one and re-registered.

Yes it can be done. 338 Federal is necked up 308. Shares same bolt head.

I guess "Shaw" is the flavor of the day people seem to like?
And thank you for your response.

Shaw barrels are good. But with Criterion and Shilen barrels you are more likely to get a very good shooter.

If Range fun on the cheap is the name of your game, then ER Shaw is your best bet.

Shaw's are easily fouled. That's been my experience. One put 3 in the same hole every time out to be fair.

The original barrel is a "heavy sport barrel" and is matte color, can I get a .308 barrel that matches that look? Wish i could find a take off factory barrel.

I only own a single Shaw bbl. it darn near shoots a ragged hole, and shoots a wide variety of ammo very well.
