I believe but I could be wrong, the ELD-X replaced the Amax. The ELD-M is the match version.
ran out of Hornady 6mm 105 Amax, they are discontinued, are there any in stock anywhere i may have missed, if not has anyone tried the Hornady 6mm eld or the eld x bullets, the Amax was the best out of my 6BR

I believe but I could be wrong, the ELD-X replaced the Amax. The ELD-M is the match version.
I just bought 500 of the A-Maxs off the forums, and was very happy to see them shoot as well as I remembered. I also tried some 108 ELD-M's but didn't have as much luck, although looking at my notes, I jammed them .010 and that might have been a mistake. I'll try them again .020 or so off.
Running them both through the Berger Twist Rate Calculator I get these results with an 8 twist barrel, 6mm BR Norma chamber.
105 A-Max, B.C. .500, length 1.235, SG@2850 fps, sea level ,standard day= 1.41
108 ELD-M, B.C .536, length 1.275, SG@ 2850 fps, sea level, standard day= 1.32
Some here say the 108 ELD-M's shoot great out of a 6mmBR with an 8 twist barrel. Most don't mention altitude or temperatures where they shoot, and of course this can make a significant difference, so you or I may have a different experience.
For me, the jury is still out on the 108, more testing is needed, but for now the 105 A-Maxes shoot almost as well as the 105 Berger Hybrids.
My initial results with the 108's were that they were not well stabilized however, as I stated above, I may have just not seated them at best jump. Then again, their SG is pitifully low at the velocities I am able to achieve.

I thought I heard the new ELD-M is the A-MAX with a different tip.

That's an inaccuracy being spread on the internet since the ELDs came out. The 105 AMAX was discontinued and they replaced it with the 108 ELD-M. There is a 103 ELD-X to for hunting. Another one of the bullets to not forget is the 105 BTHP from Hornady. It's very accurate as well and has a good BC.
If loading the 108 ELD- or 105 BTHP load them at .020" off the lands. It's a good spot for most all Hornady bullets but they will jump farhter too. Never found one that worked well jammed and I wouldn't jam them anyways as it's asking for an action full of powder if you have to remove a live round. Saw it last weekend with a guy in my squad at a match. Bullet stuck in throat.
The 108 ELD will work fine in an 8 twist as well but I shoot them over 2900fps at sea level. I shoot the 105 BTHP in a 8.5 twist .243 at 3070fps and no stability issues at sea level.
Some of the new ELD-M bullets are just the old AMAX with the new tips. But the 105amax is not one of those.
No they aren't. They are a new line.
I have been playing with the 6.5mm Hornady ELD-X (143 gr). I'm liking them very much. Hope to put one into a whitetail next fall.
This may be my one stop shopping answer for 0-300 yard whitetail. And coyotes, woodchucks, targets and gongs as far as I care to shoot.

I finally found some 105 A-Max and then discovered the Nosler 105 RDF shoots better.
