I am starting to reload for my 3006. any suggestions on bullet weights?
i am looking at Horady 150gr, but might try a lighter weight and a polymer tip?
i am just starting out.

Just a few questions to help us to help you...
What factory ammo are you using now that you like ? Are you wanting to replicate that in any way ?

What are you planning on shooting with it ? Elk, deer, coyotes, hogs, paper, steel ? Then what sort of distances ?

Nothing wrong with the 150-155gr range.

I tend to stick with the 165-168gr range myself.

I like this ammo but I am open to anything.
have shot Remington ammo 180 gr do not like it at all. just does not have a consents pattern. but I might be the problem. need more shooting time.

For the .30-'06, get a few hundred of the same brand of case. Almost any brand: Lake City mil surplus, R-P, Winchester, Federal. They are durable, and all are good enough to shoot 1/2" groups. Just about any primer. Standard Winchester Large Rifle or CCI 200. If you're not going to coat your bullets, I recommend the Sierra 150 grain soft point boattail. If you never shoot farther than 300 yards, and nothing bigger than deer and coyotes, the Sierra 125 pointed soft-point is a good choice. Also, for target shooting, even if you end up coating them, the Speer 125 gr TNT is inexpensive, and very accurate. One powder to rule them all would be Hodgdon H4895. There are a number of online resources for basic loading. Here's the skinny on that: deprime with a depriming die, like RCBS in your RCBS Rockchucker press; size the necks with a Lee collet/neck sizing die, exactly according to Lee's instructions; trim cases and chamfer necks; size cases (bump shoulder and size side wall) with a Redding body/shoulder die. This is the only time lube is needed. After sizing, either tumble or wipe clean. Prime with your RCBS hand-held priming tool. Powder gets weighed on the scale, and trickled into the pan until reaching the correct amount. The Lee Dead-Length bullet seating die is as good as any, and comes in a combo pack with the Lee collet/mandrel neck sizing die. You will eventually want the Hornady Case Length gauge with .30-'06 case to screw onto it, in order to check the length to the lands, in case you want to customize the overall length to your specific rifle. Otherwise, seat the bullets to the length given in the loading manual (Sierra manual or many others). Great job on the rifle build.

I am a 165 guy for deer sized game. SGK works fine.

I have a vintage surplus 1917 Remington 3006 with aperture sight that will shoot 1" groups with 150 grain Hornady interlock and 50 grains of BL-C-2. The ballistic tips might help if you're going to be shooting over 300 meters, but for anything under that the regular Hornady hunting bullets shoot very good. While that old war horse of mine shoots fantastic with the combination I listed, all rifles are different. You'll have to experiment with different bullets and powders.
