    Centre feed or staggered feed

    Hi folks

At appprox. where did the feed system change , serial number wise on model 12 rifles. my new .223 is bright and shiny here in NZ but how long ago did the change happen as things are getting confusing in regards to aftermarket stocks and the possibility of fitting new bottom metal and box mag.

    regards

From my understanding the serial numbers are sketchy at best. Savage would made runs with both parts, and ran the numbers together. The .471 bolt head calibers (22/250, 243, 308,7mm08, In short 25/06,270,30/06 in long) changed over first in he Savage line 2006. The Stevens 200 line changed over a bit latter. The 223 bolt head guns (223,204 Ruger) changed over a couple of years latter. (Best I can recall is late 2008) The change again started out with the Savage line then over to the Stevens line. To complicate things more, most gun dealer purchase from wholesalers that have warehouses of guns that could have sat on the shelf for a couple of years. Savage never made a sque change when the changed the guns over. To put it lightly, even in the USA, ordering a gun and guessing what you will get is a chance, I would guess that dealing with foreign exchange would even complicate this that much more.

If you can get the serial number off the box, a phone call to Savage, they will be able to give you the specific configuration.
