223 axis with short throat & A max bullets?

    Hello

I have an axis 2 heavy barrel in 223rem I am thinking about doing 300yard matches with it and I know I will have to use something like 75gr A max but I'm a little concerned with the short throat of my rifle. 2.250 book data for a 55gr v max is too long and must be 2.230 to be 10k off the lands. Will I have any issue with the 68gr or 75gr bullets with this short throat?

Just that you may have to compress the powder a bit when you seat it. That does not seem to hurt accuracy.

My .223 rifling won't stabilize a 75 gr. so I haven't used one, but it looks like the A-Max's secant ogive will let you seat it out further and still achieve a 0.020" jump.

Do you know what the twist is? 1:12 possibly.

According to the website it is 1:9.

Twist will be 1-9" which is what Savage has been using for .223 for a several decades now.
