    99F numbers

Just got a 99F. S/N 9540xx which by the numbers in Royal’s book would place it in the middle part of 1958. But the lever boss code is 16 I which would be 1957. Is this unusual? On the receiver side under the stock is 15 I the best I can tell. That would indicate a different inspector? Rear sight is missing. Numrich has lots, but picture is different than the one in Royal’s book- any ideas on where to get one that is pretty sure to be corrret?

It's somewhere between 57 and 58. Guns have set on the Savage shelves for over a year before being sold and it's common for inspector marks to be off. Actually 1957 and 58 rifles are pretty easy, get into the 500 and 600 serial range and they're all over the chart.

Best place to find a correct sight is Ebay, Royals book probably has a pic of the correct one (not sure I don't own the book) but Numrichs is wrong on alot of their sights.
