    finally a decent new barrel

I bought my 110 7mm rem mag in a BA chassis for long range shooting and unfortunately it came with a hunting barrel that was not even half an inch at the tip

it had a good scope on it and other than the barrel it was a good starting point. I used the time it took me to be ready for the barrel to put some rounds through it an develop good technique and managed to get it to shoot ok.

but it was very inconsistent with lots of 'flyers' even with hand loads and Sierra match king bullets and fouled a lot.

so I took it to a local gunsmith and had a Stainless match grade barrel fitted and it is finally doing what I wanted from it.

this is 5x 2 shots then clean during break in, single shots are my first single shots dialling the scope back in, don't mind the height variation I was not trying real hard at this point to aim

so 5 hrs later I did 2x5 shot strings, first five was me settling in, 2nd set was perfect

Savages can shoot! The rifle, shooter, and ammo are now world-class for long-range shooting and for hunting, out to as far as anybody would want to shoot. That most recent 5-shot group is a treasure. Congratulations.

took it out again, wasn't really 'in the groove' that day but did ok

100m 2 bottom holes are 2 shots through each

this is at 200m, pulled the high one and I think I could have done better

will go out again this weekend and see if I can get in the zone :)

Shoot a 10 shot group and see what it'll do.

yep that is the plan, just need to find somewhere I can do it, not much on offer here in Aus for long range.

I have been using SMK 180 grain HPBT I have some 168 grain being loaded now so will see how they shoot, might need to go back to 180 once I find a spot to stretch it's legs

bought a RPS bipod for it, will be having it bedded shortly as well, I have been using 168g SMK and not finding them as consistent as the 180 so have some Berger 180 being loaded presently

not real happy with this sort of grouping

good old photo bucket.... anyway, I am now shooting in F open class at my local range and having some fun. Took the plunge and bought a decent scope as 20x is not really doing the job out to 700 yards, I bought a VORTEX GOLDEN EAGLE with ECR-1 reticle, will take it out this weekend and should help my score :)

this is how the rifle has been grouping at 100m, 3 shots NVM the crossed out one I re-used a target

new scope fitted, that is the RPS bipod as well just FYI

got my hands on a proper rear bag and wow, just have to get into doing my own reloads and get them more consistent

    500 yards 15 shot result

also have revised the pistol grip adding a filler piece at the rear as my hand was too far forward and it was putting my finger not correctly on the trigger and I got a BA style bolt handle for it to complete the BA styling
