Correct Magazine for NRA Match Rifle

I have a Savage NRA Match Rifle, Serial No. 27687. It came without a magazine and I obtained one marked on the side
23A Sporter/NRA Match; the lower marking is sharper/clearer. The magazine does not fit and it seems to me it is a little too long from front to rear. Is this a correct magazine, or is something else wrong?

That should be the right magazine based on the serial number of your gun. The magazine is held in by a flat spring in the front of the magazine well that pushes it back so the rib catches in a slotted rear guide - you have to push forward on the bottom of the magazine to flex that spring so it can be inserted, or removed. The button on the bottom of the magazine is there to give you something to hold on to when doing this.
