I'm looking for "This worked for me" loads for the 250/3000. I am thinking of rebarreling a Axis 243 Win with a 26" in 250 Savage (1/9"). A 1/10" would work but I live in THE MARXIST/SOCIALIST PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF CALIFORNIA so I have uses lead free bullets. The rifle with a 26" barrel would put me in the same ballpark with a 257 Roberts with a 22" and take about 10% less powder and at lower PSI. No I am not interested in going with the AI cartage. As it is going to be a hunting gun, I have experience with cartridges with 40deg. shoulders (6TCU) and they are not designed for fast bolt action operation.
My last 99 Savage in 250-3000 got very good accuracy with 100 grain Hornady's over 33 grains of IMR 4320, this is not a max load in the book.Originally Posted by Fat Albert

This load and bullet dumped bear, deer and even one moose.
The 250 wasn't my first choice for moose, but it was what I had at the time, two shots in the boiler room and it walked about 20 feet and tipped over.
The classic load is probably 34.0 grains of H4895 with a 100 grain bullet. I ran out of H4895 during the last shortage and substituted 36.0/Big Game with 100 grain Hornady soft points. It drops deer fast. I haven't run it over a chronograph, but it should be making 2850-2900
I have an Axis re-barreled to a 250 savage. I'm shooting:
80gr Barnes TTSX
38gr RL-17
Rem brass
Win LR primers
Now the kicker they are loaded 70 thou. back off the lands.
If you decide to use TTSX bullets 1 thing I learned is they like to jump. Load the bullet to the middle of the last ring on the bullet.
Mine shoot 5/8 @100yrds
