I really like the old wood and steel rimfires that everybody seems to pass by in the gun shops. Last week at my local shop they had just brought in a "Savage" pump. Yesterday they had it for sale for $290; I was buying a shotgun so they let me have it for $159 out the door. Thinking it was a 1909 Savage, with magazine, I said ok.

Looking it over for any markings all I could find on the barrel was .22 Cal Short Smokeless ctg. and on the right side receiver, barely visible "Model No. 1". There is a 4 digit s/n on the bottom tang and inside the gun; 24" round barrel, smooth round pump handle. After some research (including here) I find that it isn't a Savage 1909 afterall; but a Febiger Model No. 1; an unauthorized copy of the Savage.
