I go down near Salem to get my powder and primers, closest place I have found locally short of IA City that actually stocks anything regularly.

DeWitt IA here. Milan is great. Was a member there 2 years ago but moved away...but now I am back. Is there an active thread newer than 2010?

This thread is the most active for the Iowa area. It was started in 2010 but we keep adding to it.

Anything new at the 3 mile range? I haven't been out there in a couple months, just too busy with work, family etc.

Not much has changed, unless you're a shotgunner. The clubhouse is coming along nicely, but nothing more has been done to the rifle range. The pistol pit is borderline unuseable due to poor grading/no drainage/standing water/constantly muddy issues. The steel plate at 500 yards still rings like a bell when properly hit with a 175 grin smk though. :-)

I'm still slowly working up my new IMR 4064 loads for my .308, but darn near bought a .260Ackley Improved barrel last week.

I had excellent groups with IMR 4064. I started at 43 gr; 43.5; 44.0; 44.5. I only had time to shoot at 50 yards but the groups were tight enough for the trial run of a new rifle. I have pics if you want to see them. I was shooting Win 180 PSP bullets.

Thanks hombre243! Lat trip out I tried 42.5, 43.5 & 44.5 grains of IMR 4064 using LC brass and 175 grain Sierra Matchkings. I had good results at 42.5 and 43.5, more or less powder opened the groups up.

I have several more rounds put together for further testing.

Sounds like 43.0 is the one to try.

I have been working with my new Mossy MVP 5.56. It is a shooter but I have only used Win White Box for initial break in and sighting at 50 yards. I need a few more empties from this lot to make 50 for neck sizing. (10) Then also some other loads just to try. I have been using 55 gr bullets of various design and the rifle seems to like them all...so far. I may get a hundred 45s and some 62s just for S&Gs. As the weather warms it will be harder to get a table at the range, which means I will have to shake it loose before daylight.

The torture we endure for the sport we love.

    Look-out coyotes...here I come.
