    Replace bolt body?

I'm having a good time with my 110 ( short action) 243, but the bolt travel isn't especially smooth. Occasionally it will grab and hang up a bit.
I wonder if getting a new PTG bolt body improve things a bit. The original bolt measures .693. I have no way to measure the receiver bore, but the bolt fits looser than ideal. Not Mauser loose, but it seems a bit much.
Think a larger diameter bolt body will eliminate the grab/ hang problem? Assuming a nominal .700 receiver bore, how large a bolt should I get?
    Many thanks.

    • From PTG’s website. I ordered one and it took away a lot of the slop.
    • Specify Bolt OD (typically your measured raceway ID minus (.002” - .003”) Example: if your raceway ID is (.7020", your bolt OD would be .7000") Minimum Bolt OD is .695". If you require a smaller bolt OD, please call our sales staff at (541) 826-5808. *

If it's a new rifle, it will take a bit before it becomes smooth.

My brother got me a aftermarket fluted bolt body for one of my rifles and it made it less smooth. It needs lots of time to work itself in. And coated bolt bodies and bolt heads will never be as smooth as the bare naked ones.

Thanks all. She's not new ( 1985), but new to me. Honestly she's about as close to nib as a 32 year old rifle can be. In thinking it might be money well spent. In not looking for Krag or Mannlicher smooth ( no hard feelings though), but no binding or grabbing would be very nice. I would go for the smooth uncoated bolt body. Don't need fancy.

You might want to buy a telescoping gauge. For $30 it might save you some heartache if you have guessed wrong on the diameter. Even if you use it once. If you can read a micrometer this is a great gauge.

My findings were the same as Zero333. If you buy a tighter fitting body do not get the fluted ones. I think there is a reason SSS flutes the way they do.

Break the edges all around on the bolt head and the baffle, put a little frog lube on it and see if that helps.
