    Axis stock question

Hello all first time posting here.
I just picked up a new axis compact in 243 win.
I am going to do the forearm epoxy reinforcement work and after separating receiver and stock there is substantial oil residue inside the stock.
My question is what should I use to remove any containments that may be on the plastic before applying the epoxy?
Appreciate all responses and appreciate this site as this is my first Savage center fire rifle.RB

Without knowing anything about the plastic in the stock I would think naphtha maybe rubbing alcohol would be safe.

The stock is Nylon, which is one of the most solvent-resistant plastics out there. Even acetone, which eats other plastics for breakfast, has almost no effect on nylon. I wouldn't leave it immersed in the stuff, but by the time acetone evaporates it will do no harm to your stock. I use brake cleaner on plastic stocks all the time with no ill effects. Just be sure to use appropriate PPE and ventilation.

On another note, Rockite would be my recommendation for stock stiffening, unless you're planning to lay up fiberglass on your stock. Rockite is generally cheap enough to justify buying a small box even though you won't need all of it and you have a lot of epoxy laying around.

    Thanks for the responses.
Brake cleans is a great product I've used b4, just didn't want to risk it until someone verified compatability.
Looking fwd to getting this rifle tuned up, load developed and on my pack every time I walk away from my truck.RB

Hot water and Dawn. You could probably even put it in the dishwasher.

    Thanks.
After reading a number of threads on the axis rifle it looks like a rifle basix trigger and some stock strengthening work should make my axis happy.RB

Plus 2 on the dawn and some warm water and a little scrubbing. Should be good to go. Dawn is excellent on light oils.
